It's Even Harder When You Spend Some Time ... - News Day Wellness

If there were one health prevention tablet you might take that would pack the most punch it might certainly be the advantage of physical fitness. Too many folks target all of the work that goes into being physically active, and don?t pay attention to the advantages of exercise. As an important point, the advantage of physical fitness can be realized with 1 or 2 short minutes of exercise every day. The reward you harvest from physical fitness schedules far out weigh any investment of time in exercising.

Because each one of these parts can be considered, computed and measured to give a basic idea of a person?s physical fitness level. Additionally, you?ll also find that some sources include psychological and emotional health as a vital part of overall fitness.

Know that some sources might debate agility, balance, coordination, and speed with the five parts of fitness to help explain the image of creating somebody?s fitness level. As you can spot from this essay alone, when attempting to offer a definition of physical fitness, you can obviously see that complete fitness is undeniably more than simply good general health. This is something that individuals that are bed-ridden and otherwise not able to do physical fitness that well can make use of to get some physical benefit.

The ones that are actually flabby can maybe start imagining they?re doing the exercise inside their minds and then move on to the real deal from there.? Wendell : ?That is very engaging. I never imagined of that before.? Catharsis : ?You know what I find bizarre about physical fitness? It is like they fall into some black hole of atrophy and can?t break away. Everybody has things in our life that take up our time regardless of what you do.

So naturally it is tough to find time to dedicate to exercising. It?s even harder when you spend a little time to exercise and see almost no results. The following is one or two tips to offer you discernment of what precisely to search for. Within one or two weeks, you?ll see a conspicuous difference in your levels of energy. The more that you exercise, the more that you will find your staying power augmenting. A great way to include some cardio exercise into your daily running order is to stroll. Rather than parking your automobile right at the entrance of the local Walmart, why not park it a couple of hundred meters from the entrance to get some exercise? Rather than the lift, try taking the steps at work.

Officials close Boca stadium after fan violence

Associated Press Sports

updated 10:14 p.m. ET Aug. 23, 2012

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -Government security officials have closed Boca Juniors' stadium as a penalty for fan violence at the end of a match on Wednesday against Independiente in the Copa Sudamericana.

Dario Ruiz, a top official of the office of Security Policy, on Thursday said Boca's Bombonera stadium would be closed for at least one league match.

Violence broke out after Independiente earned a 3-3 draw with a late penalty, and fans near the Independiente bench ripped down an advertising board. Boca said in a statement that it had identified four fans involved and said they would be banned from entering the stadium.

Violence threatens many matches in Argentine football, where hooligan gangs rule areas in and around the stadiums.

Apple's Victory is One for Pioneering Designers ? Business Law in ...

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Apple won its long-anticipated jury trial against Samsung on Thursday and was awarded $1.05 billion in damages by a jury. I think it is highly unlikely that the decision will be overturned on appeal, so the case is likely to establish an important precedent, as I anticipated in an earlier post I wrote in 2011. My prediction then, however, was that Apple would win through a private settlement instead of a jury verdict.

I predicted a private settlement because of the high stakes involved and the risks open to both companies if the issue ultimately was taken to a jury. Apple?s risk was that the jury would invalidate some or all of the patents it had asserted, a defensive maneuver that Samsung adopted during litigation. Samsung?s risk was that it would be found to have infringed Apple?s patents by copying user interfaces and other design aspects of Apple?s products. In the end, and to the surprise of many, both companies rolled the die and Apple came out on top.

The $1.05 billion verdict is a big coup, not just for Apple, but for product designers in general. For a long time, product design was perceived in industry and in legal policy-making circles as an intellectual property and strategic backwater. That has changed, however, due to consumers? increasing aesthetic sophistication and a crowded global marketplace.

Design is starting to play an essential role in product differentiation and branding. An empirical study I conducted with two marketing scholars in 2009, published in?The Journal of Marketing, found a positive association between trademark ownership and financial performance. This link between the two suggests that companies which pay attention to the legal aspects of branding through trademark registration reap greater rewards.

Elsewhere, I have written about the rare capability within firms that generates product shape trademarks. Product shape and packaging trademarks, often referred to as ?trade dress,? were among the arrows in Apple?s legal quiver in the Samsung trial. I believe the Apple-Samsung case signals that product design and trademarks will be increasingly applied during new product development and asserted during litigation among companies across industries.

I make a career of teaching legal studies to business students. In my lectures, I invariably cover the subject of intellectual property management and strategy. Had Samsung won at trial against Apple, I would have cynically advocated what I perceived as Samsung?s business and intellectual property strategy. That is, I would have advocated in favor of free-riding from an industry leader to quickly gain a foothold and increase market share. Had Samsung won, this strategy would be effective, since the risks of infringement and damages would have been minimal. Once the fast follower and design imitator establishes their foothold, they can then compete against the innovator based on a cost advantage. From a business perspective, this clearly would have been an effective tactic.

Given Apple?s victory, however, Samsung?s strategy is no longer risk free or optimal. Instead, a better strategy is to be aware of competitor?s intellectual property rights and embrace innovation. This will require investing in design capabilities to distinguish products, which is how Apple secured its leadership position.

A copycat strategy may still be adopted by firms that want to quickly enter a technology market, such as mobile devices. After the Apple-Samsung case, however, that strategy became significantly riskier, much to to the benefit of pioneering innovators everywhere.

Having An Ecommerce Merchant Account: The Basics | Vision ...

Having an online business can sometimes be as hard as ? if not harder than ? a traditional, brick-and-mortar outlet, and there are a lot of differences between the two that can cause issues, but one thing you must understand clearly and perfectly when you have an Internet-based business is the concept of the ecommerce merchant account. Without an ecommerce merchant account, your online business is up the river without a paddle. It won?t be able to process your customers? or clients? payments, and therefore, you can?t make any money. Can you see why having ? and understanding ? your ecommerce merchant account is so vital to the ultimate success of your online store?

There are a lot of different kinds of merchant accounts in this world, however, such as mobile accounts, mail- and telephone-order accounts, and even the standard, conventional merchant accounts which you can physically see as you check out at any classic grocery, for instance, in the point-of-sale (POS) terminal used to swipe your card, transmit the data, and complete the transaction. An ecommerce merchant account, however, differs from these other kinds of merchant accounts in that it is specifically designed to support and interact with your online infrastructure.

If you?ve done any homework regarding the set up of your new online business ? and we do hope you have ? you will know a little bit about (or at least heard of) what are called shopping carts and payment gateways. These are tools that allow your ecommerce merchant account to function. The first tool, the shopping cart, is a program designed to assist your shopper online as they browse your store, put things in their ?basket,? quantify them, make changes to colors, sizes, or whatever other criteria you input, and ultimately, check them out.

This is when the payment gateway comes into the picture. When the buyer enters his or her personal credit card information into your system, the payment gateway encrypts and transmits this data across the network quickly and securely, facilitating your ecommerce merchant account transaction in a matter of seconds. These are just a few of the differences between most varieties of merchant accounts out there and the classic ecommerce merchant account for most online businesses out there.

If you would like to know more about ecommerce merchant accounts, or if you would like an ecommerce merchant account of your own through Vision Payment Solutions, then call us at the number at the top of the screen today, and get started toward a more profitable system of processing.

?I?m Not Fighting or Battling Cancer? It?s Fighting Me.?

"Remember, you too are mortal"?hit me at the top of my form and just as things were beginning to plateau. My two assets my pen and my voice?and it had to be the esophagus. All along, while burning the candle at both ends, I'd been "straying into the arena of the unwell" and now "a vulgar little tumor" was evident. This alien can't want anything; if it kills me it dies but it seems very single-minded and set in its purpose. No real irony here, though. Must take absolute care not to be self-pitying or self-centered.

In her afterword to Mortality, Hitchens' widow, Carol Blue, writes of how she misses "the unpublished Hitch: the countless notes he left for me in the entryway, on my pillow, the emails he would send while we sat in different rooms in our apartment." For writers less productive than Hitchens?that is, all of us?the idea of unpublished Hitch is inconceivable. He was everywhere?on TV when he wasn't giving a speech, his latest book either just published or about to be published, the author of pieces in Slate, Vanity Fair, and the Atlantic in the same week. How could anything have gone unpublished? How could there be any stories, any jokes, any insults, any perfect Wodehouse citations that were never silver-tongued out into the world? Yet despite writing as much as he did, he left some behind, either for friends and family, or, in this case, as notes.

The publisher calls these "fragmentary jottings." But even poisoned by chemo, even down 14 pounds, Hitch wrote with as much toughness, energy, and wit as ever.

Always prided myself on my reasoning faculty and my stoic materialism. I don't have a body, I am a body. Yet consciously and regularly acted as if this was not true, or as if an exception would be made in my case. Feeling husky and tired on tour? See the doctor when it's over!

Lost fourteen pounds without trying. Thin at last. But don't feel lighter because walking to the fridge is like a forced march. Then again, the vicious psoriasis/excema pustules that no doctor could treat have gone, too. This must be some impressive toxin I'm taking. And a mercy for sleep purposes?but all the sleep-aids and blissful dozes seem somehow a waste of life?there's plenty of future time in which to be unconscious.

The nice men with the oxygen and the gurney and the ambulance very gently deporting me across the frontier of the well, in another country.

In Moonwalking With Einstein, Joshua Foer explains how to use your memory to extend your life. Routine days and nights leave no lasting impression?they pass, and it's as though they never happened. Unusual events?exotic travel, strange encounters, new experiences?plant durable memories and make life actually seem longer. Essentially, the more you remember, the more you feel you have lived, and thus, the more you actually have lived. Hitchens was the embodiment of this idea. He constantly sought sensation?traveled everywhere, drank everything, met everyone, got waterboarded?and he remembered it all, as well as everything he read.

The alien was burrowing into me even as I wrote the jaunty words about my own prematurely announced death.

Now so many tributes that it also seems that rumors of my LIFE have also been greatly exaggerated. Lived to see most of what's going to be written about me: this too is exhilarating but hits diminishing returns when I realize how soon it, too, will be "background."

Hitchens was most often compared to George Orwell, another muscular, anti-totalitarian journalist. But is Oscar Wilde an even better comparison? Like Wilde, Hitchens performed. And like Wilde, Hitchens was always funny.

Julian Barnes on John Diamond?

A bout de souffl??Seberg/Belmondo. Funny how one uses "breathless" or "out of breath" so casually. At Logan [airport]?can't breathe! Next stop terminal.

"Next stop terminal." That's a great line. As he was dying, Hitchens became especially attuned to the ways in which we talk, and don't, about death. See his fragment about "expiration date" below.

Tragedy? Wrong word: Hegel versus the Greeks.

Morning of biopsy, wake and say whatever happens this is the last day of my old life. No pretence of youth or youthfulness anymore. From now on an arduous awareness.

New Yorker cartoon on obit pages?Used to notice death-dates of Orwell, Wilde etc. Now maybe as long as Evelyn Waugh.

Amazing how heart and lungs and liver have held up: would have been healthier if I'd been more sickly.

Hitchens took so much abuse for how much he drank and smoke. It must have given him satisfaction that his lungs and liver never betrayed him.

PRAYER: Interesting contradictions at the expense of those who offer it?too easy a Pascalian escape-hatch with me on the right side of the wager this time: what god could ignore such supplications? Same token?those who say I am being punished are saying that god can't think of anything more vengeful than cancer for a heavy smoker.

Nose-hairs gone: runny nostrils. Constipation and diarrhea alternating?

"The old order changeth, yielding place to new, and God fulfils himself in many ways and soon, I suppose, I shall be swept away by some vulgar little tumor?".

Some years ago, a British journalism, John Diamond, was diagnosed with cancer, and turned his condition into a weekly column. Rightly, he maintained the same perky tone that characterized the rest of his work: rightly, he admitted cowardice and panic alongside curiosity and occasional courage. His account sounded completely authentic: this was what living with cancer entailed; nor did being ill make you a different person, or stop you having rows with your wife. Like many other readers, I used to quietly urge him on from week to week. But after a year and more?well, a certain narrative expectation inevitably built up. Hey, miracle cure! Hey, I was just having you on! No, neither of those could work as endings. Diamond had to die; and he duly, correctly (in narrative terms) did. Though?how can I put this??a stern literary critic might complain that his story lacked compactness toward the end?

While Hitchens was dying, and then after he died, many of us made a point of admiring how vigorously and passionately he wrote about his illness. The unspoken message of all this almost seemed to be: Isn't it wonderful that Hitchens is dying so brilliantly! But now that he's been dead almost a year?a year without a column, a review, a fight?the fact that he went out so boisterously is small solace. Better he had another 35 years to write about Iraq and God and wine and everything else he liked to write about when he wasn't dying.

Tendency of some commiserations to sound unintentionally final, either by past tense or some other giveaway of a valedictory sort. Sending flowers not as nice as it might seem.

I'm not fighting or battling cancer?it's fighting me.

One reason Hitchens wrote so well about dying was that he was at heart a war correspondent. He liked conflict. In this case, he engaged in the most graphic war reporting of his life?chronicling the unwinnable conflict between the "alien" and his own self, a series of skirmishes over his vocal cords, skin, and nose hair.

Brave? Hah! Save it for a fight you can't run away from.

Saul Bellow: Death is the dark backing that a mirror needs if we are able to see anything.

Vertiginous feeling of being kicked forward in time: catapulted toward the finish line. Trying not to think with my tumor, which would not be thinking at all. People try to make it sound as if it were an EPISODE in one's life.

ONCOLOGY/ONTOLOGY: Under the old religious dispensation, heaven would simply sentence you to be lavishly tortured and then executed. Montaigne: "Religion's surest foundation is the contempt for life."

Fear leads to superstition?"The Big C," though, seems mercifully to have dumped?and I'm glad nobody wants to slaughter any endangered species on my behalf.

Only OK if I say something objective and stoical: Ian remarking that a time might come when I'd have to let go: Carol asking about Rebecca's wedding "Are you afraid you won't see England again?"

Also, ordinary expressions like "expiration date"?will I outlive my Amex? My driver's license? People say?I'm in town on Friday: will you be around? WHAT A QUESTION!

COLD FEET (so far only at night): "peripheral neuropathy" is another of those words like "necrotic" that describe death-in-life of the system.

AND you lose weight but cancer isn't interested in eating your flab. It wants your muscle. The Tumortown Diet ain't much help.

Worst of all is "chemo-brain." Dull, stuporous. What if the protracted, lavish torture is only the prelude to a gruesome execution.

Body turns from reliable friend to more neutral to treacherous foe?Proust?

Hitchens with "chemo-brain": better that most journalists on two cups of coffee.

If I convert it's because it's better that a believer dies than that an atheist does.

This is my favorite line in the book. It's a kick in the face to all those people who nagged him to accept God on his deathbed. I also like that it takes a few seconds to get the joke. I read it once, was baffled, and only laughed after I read it again.

Not even a race for a cure?

Paperwork the curse of Tumortown.

Misery of seeing oneself on old videos or YouTubes?

"Gradual disclosure" not yet a problem for me.

Michael Korda's book Man to Man?

You can get so habituated to bad news that good news is like Breytenbach and the cake. Consolations of saying, well at least now I won't have to do THAT.

Larkin good on fear in "Aubade," with implied reproof to Hume and Lucretius for their stoicism. Fair enough in one way: atheists ought not to be offering consolation either.

Banality of cancer. Entire pest-house of side-effects. Special of the day.

See Symborska's poem on torture and the body as a reservoir of pain.

In these few short pages, Hitchens manages to cite: Montaigne, Hegel, Waugh, Wilde, Orwell, Hume, Lucretius, Larkin, Szymborska ? Is there anything he hadn't read?

From Alan Lightman's intricate 1993 novel Einstein's Dreams; set in Berne in 1905:

With infinite life comes an infinite list of relatives. Grandparents never die, nor do great-grandparents, great aunts?and so on, back through the generations, all alive and offering advice. Sons never escape from the shadows of their fathers. Nor do daughters of their mothers. No one ever comes into his own?Such is the cost of immortality. No person is whole. No person is free.

Panama, California advance at Little League WS

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) ? Hance Smith's eyes widened in the dugout as he watched Quinton Gago send a homer well over the left-field fence.

The boys from Petaluma, Calif., are packing quite the punch from the plate at the Little League World Series.

Smith hit two homers, including a first-inning grand slam, and California pounded out 12 hits in an 11-1, five-inning victory over San Antonio on Thursday night to reach the U.S championship game.

California will play Goodlettsville, Tenn., on Saturday.

Smith, 13, is trying to remember to keep his hands out in front of his body before every at-bat.

"With that thought in mind, I keep going to the plate," the power-hitting shortstop said. "It's been working out so far."

Smith finished 3 for 3 with five RBIs, and Gago had two hits and two RBIs.

Starter Danny Marzo, already a California hero for hitting a game-ending homer this week, came up big on the mound with 11 strikeouts in five innings.

He was gracious on the mound, too, after Texas' Jordan Cardenas went deep in the third. The 12-year-old Marzo greeted Cardenas with a high-five with his glove hand as Cardenas jogged down the third-base line.

Earlier, Aguadulce, Panama, edged Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, 2-1 to advance to the international final against Japan.

California didn't have quite as difficult a time against Texas, the game ending in the bottom of the fifth due to Little League's 10-run rule.

"Runs early help," said California manager Brad Smith, Hance's proud father. "It gives confidence to our pitcher and just makes everything a little easier."

The Petaluma boys managed just two hits off Texas pitching in the decisive six-run first ? but both balls landed over the outfield fence.

California loaded the bases on three walks. A wild pitch brought home the first run, and the bases were loaded again after Austin Paretti reached first on a dropped third strike.

Smith then hit a 2-2 pitch that just cleared the wall in left-center 225 feet away.

"Petaluma! Petaluma!" shouted California's fans.

Two pitches later, Quinton Gago went deep, too, and left no doubt about his shot. It easily cleared the wall in left and landed amongst fans perched on the grassy hill beyond the outfield.

It was such an impressive shot that even Smith stopped to admire the blast from the dugout as the ball carried under the night sky.

But Smith wasn't done himself.

Another homer to left in the third earned the 13-year-old slugger another set of pats on the helmet from happy teammates who greeted him at the plate.

And to think, Smith has been borrowing teammate Andrew White's bat.

He may not ever give it back the way he's hitting.

Marzo allowed just two hits and a walk, and retired the last seven batters he faced.

California has a chance to avenge its only loss in South Williamsport ? a 9-6 defeat to the Tennessee crew from Goodlettsville on Sunday. Texas was eliminated.

Texas manager Jack Wideman Jr. gathered his players in a circle in left field after the game for one final team meeting as the players' families and friends waited in the stands.

"We ran up against a great team ... One through 12, every one of them can put the ball in play," Wideman said. They were just smashing the ball."

In the early game, 12-year-old Edisson Gonzalez had 11 strikeouts and James Gonzalez provided the offense with a two-run homer in the first to lift Panama.

Another rematch in on top in the international final. Tokyo beat Panama 4-1 on Wednesday night.

Mexico starter Ramon Ballina struck out 12, but allowed James Gonzalez's big blast.

Panama manager Luis Gonzalez is also a proud uncle after his 12-year-old nephew hit the homer.

"It was a difficult game, but our pitcher did his job," Luis Gonzalez said through a translator. "One pitch decided the game."

Mexico scored in the fifth on Marcelo Perez's RBI single, and had the tying run at second with two outs in the sixth.

But Edisson Gonzalez got a strikeout to end the game.

"I was not nervous in the beginning of the game," he said, "but in the last inning when the first batter got on, I got nervous. (James') home run helped because I'm not having a good tournament at the plate and we needed it to win the game."

After the teams exchanged handshakes at the plate, Edisson Gonzalez joined several teammates to exchange high-fives one more time with Mexico's disappointed players. He tapped counterpart Ballina, 13, on the shoulder, as the Mexico starter walked back to his dugout to offer kind words and an embrace.

Looking as cool and confident as a big-league ace, Edisson Gonzalez consistently worked ahead of the count and didn't allow a runner to get past first until Eduardo Abrego doubled to left in the fifth.

"Yes we can! Yes we can," Mexico's vocal fans yelled in Spanish in trying to urge a comeback.

Perez followed with his solid RBI single to center, but Gonzalez got two strikeouts to end that inning.

Renowned earlier in the tournament for their power, Mexico hitters struggled at the plate until the final innings. The loss eliminated Mexico.

After beating Curacao on Tuesday, Mexico lost its second game without manager Fernando Rios, who was suspended two games after failing to have all his players take a turn at bat in a 4-3 win earlier this week over Taiwan.

Mexico's acting manager elected not to speak with reporters after the game.

Funniest Man in Market Research Lays An Egg | KL ...

On the lighter side, here?s a critique on our ?stand-up? routine at the Market Research in the Mobile World Conference.

DATELINE ? Cincinnati, Ohio July 19th, 2012

Byline / Variety Market Research Conference Reporter ? Studs Lonnigan

AP ? After being generously introduced by Master of Ceremonies, Lenny Murphy, as the funniest man in market research, KL Communications? CEO Kevin Lonnie spent the next ten minutes being spectacularly unfunny!

As if to completely rebuff his gracious introduction, Mr. Lonnie?s highly anticipated comedy routine quickly dissolved into a ?dry as toast? PowerPoint presentation.

This author was not alone in his opinions of this atrocious comedy act.

Mr. Gregg Archibald, Senior Partner of new consulting firm Gen 2 described it this way.? ?After Lenny?s intro, I was ready to burst into laughter at the 1st sign of something remotely humorous.? But alas, that moment never came.?

Echoing Mr. Archibald?s lament, Mr. Ricardo Lopez, CEO of Hispanic Research Inc. described it this way, ?As a presentation it was OK, but it wasn?t the least bit funny.?

Fortunately, no chants for ?Refund? emerged from the audience as Mr. Lonnie had the good sense to quickly surrender the stage to the far more loquacious Sean Holbert.

The audience was further aided by the 20 minute presentation limit upon which Mr. Murphy quickly gave the hook to ?the funniest man in market research? (an oxymoron if ever there was one. ).

As for this author, he has serious doubts that Mr. Lonnie?s comedic career can resurface.? ?This was a burn out that comes along once a decade, it?s our generation?s answer to Howard The Duck? said an unnamed conference registrant.

Mr. Lonnie?s booking agent [name withhold for obvious reasons] said that Mr. Lonnie would be back on stage at QRCA?s Annual Conference in Montreal this October.? Attendees of that event are advised to find their own source of amusement during Mr. Lonnie?s next ?performance?.
